Somedays it is fun to play with the titles, today was one of those days. Why on earth would I entitle it Extremely Famous (or Extreme-ly)? Well Extreme Sports Scuba has been represented multiple times through Dive Training Magazine. Our dive shop, here in the middle of the US has been representing the Dive Experience which is GREAT!
If you have followed this blog any at all, you’ll know a couple things about the blogger (that’s me….): 1) I am the blogger . 2) I have written this blog since September 2013. 3) I am working on my Master’s degree in English. 4) I did my internship here last spring (wow that seems like a long time ago!). 5) Apparently I know how to write/type/talk (if you’ve ever spoken with me). So even though this blog isn’t about ME… you have learned those key bits and pieces through the years. Well this spring semester I’m in a Memoir writing class. The professor has us writing journals and he told us the more we write, the better our grade basically. So the first journal entry I turned in, I had 11 or 12 pages, it is double spaced keep in mind, but it was 11 or 12 pages. Yesterday in class he told me I write a lot of s*** (meaning stuff, not in a bad sense).
Okay anyway I just had to share for those of you who know me. I thought it was funny… although I wasn’t sure if that was a compliment or a bad thing. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see, but I did get all the points! Score. Now on to the photos of week 4.
20 – 1.20.2016 – Happy Birthday Drake! Look who is road official too! (aka he got his drivers license)
How on earth is it already the 3rd week of January? Wow! And here’s a fun piece of information that I might get a dirty look for… someone turned 16 today (aka Drake Weston). I also want to throw this out there… this weekly mem that we have going on, the Project 366, if you have pictures of Scuba Diving or Extreme Sports related events you can add, please let me know! It’s not something I solely have to do!! Okay, on with the weeks pictures…
13 – 1.13.2016 – ScubaPro delivery day. Wonder if I have anything in there… How about you?
Well this is supposed to be the Wednesday Meme but… We had such a fun post yesterday that please excuse the fact that this posted on Thursday! Hey… and did you catch the Tuesday post also? Just asking/checking.
6 – 1.6.2016 – It is Wednesday. That means Donut Day at the shop if Addison has anything to say about it. It is also Sweet Tea day…
It’s a new year in case you didn’t notice. Last year, every Wednesday we did a diver interview post and met 52 of the wonderful divers who dive with Extreme Sports SCUBA. Now I know there are more of you out there than got interviewed, but there were times we struggled getting a weekly post up, so this year we plan on interviewing more divers but not 52 because YIKES!
So this year, we thought it could be fun to do a Project 365. In case you don’t know what that is, basically it is at least a photo a day for the entire year. I guess technically we should call it 366 since this is a Leap year.
These pictures will include events, day to day activities, products in the shop, people in the shop, the ideas are limitless. The pictures will run Wednesday through the following Tuesday and then be posted on Wednesday. So please come back every Wednesday to see the new post! And we hope you enjoy!
Normally we only have one Kansas City Chiefs post per season, but…. I hope you’ll let this second post slide by because it covers two birds with one stone. One it is the maiden voyage of the Chiefs Bus (which still needs to be addressed) and two the Chiefs are kicking butt!
I still need to do a post on the Chiefs Bus/Extreme Sports Scuba bus, but for now, know that this was the maiden voyage of the Chiefs Bus, Kansas City bound!
The high on January 1st in Garfield, Arkansas was 41˚F. Garfield is just about 5 miles down the road from where we dive at Indian Creek campsite, so why on earth would someone want to dive on New Years Day? Because you can! Because you want to start the New Year out right. Because you’re like Dan La Due and you dive once a month and have since you were certified in 2004. Because you were dared. Actually there are lots of reasons! But here are our top 10 reasons for 2016.
10 Reasons to Dive New Year’s Day
1. You get to make the maiden voyage of the Extreme Bus (aka the Chiefs Bus, more to come on that…). Pete wasn’t about to miss out on his opportunity to A) go to the lake and B) ride in the bus. There was no leaving him home.
Today marks the 200th blog post since this blog came about! 200 posts! Can you imagine? When we hit 100 posts I shared 100 facts about Scuba Diving. Don’t worry, we’re not doing that for the 200th blog post. Whew could you imagine. haha. Instead, since today marks the first day of 2016, let’s review Extreme Sports SCUBA’s 2015, video style. Now, I need to apologize, I tried to make the video shorter than last year, and wound up a minute longer. Sorry! Hope you enjoy!
And if you want to view 2014’s year in review, go here!
Last week we decided to play a little guessing game. It was crazy all the different fashion statements we saw at the Underwater Pumpkin Carving this year. But now it is time to reveal the answers as to who pulled off the fashion statements.
First off you saw this picture….
If you guessed Boomer Baugh, you are correct!
The second picture…..
Finally, the last picture you saw….
Did you guess Nicole Willoughby? If so, you would be right!
So, how did you do?
How did Fall get here so fast? In the blink of an eye it’ll be over. Holy cow! Can you believe that we are over halfway through the month of October? October, did I just say October? Why yes, yes I did. That means that it is time for the 18th Annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving.
As with all events that we participate in, this year’s Underwater Pumpkin Carving brought some great stories, from the great fashion statements to Boomer Baugh trying to get his pumpkin underwater. (Yes, we have video of that one, now if Charli Jo Epperly could have had a video camera running from under the water so we could have had both views!)
Our morning started out kind of overcast and in the upper 40’s but by late afternoon the sun was out and the weather wasn’t too bad. Anywhere from t-shirt to a light weight jacket or sweat shirt and it was pretty comfortable.
The morning started out with certifying a class of Divers. Congratulations to the new open water divers: Bryon Ezell, Yolanda Ezell, Charli Jo Epperly, Brandon Mee, Alex McKinley and Billie McKinley.
Also Congratulations to Mitch Hushak for completing Solo Diver and Dry Suit Diver.
While Grady and Dan took care of the scuba certifications, Deb stayed dry to start getting people signed up for the underwater pumpkin carving that was to start at noon. Karen and I jumped in and helped with the cooking of the chili and spaghetti. The spaghetti was for spaghetti red. We had 2 different people with us, one from Alaska and one from California who mentioned that they’d never heard of that. The comment was, “That must be a Midwest thing.” .
And you know the saying, if there’s food, they will come… Lol.
As stated every year, the pumpkin carving starts at 1pm, you have 45 minutes to get your pumpkin, carved and back up or if you hit a psi of 500 you must come up.
There was some excitement in getting a pumpkin down underwater this year. Anyone who was underwater minus Charli Jo didn’t know about it until we came back up but I guess it was quite the show for all those who were on land. And thanks to Dan La Due, we have a video. Sorry, I have to share the video Boomer, but we still love you! (by the way, Dan already shared it on facebook so technically, I’m ok, right? haha)
Good news is Boomer finally got down and was able to carve his pumpkin! And so did the rest of us. Now being the blogger, I have blogged about this twice, but never tried it so this year I changed that. I’ll tell you they over weighted me to help get my pumpkin down and I still couldn’t do it. I didn’t have the trouble that poor Boomer did though, I just gave it to my darling husband, Mark, and asked him to get it down for me. That’s how you do it people! haha .
The joke after all the carving was done is we all had to take our pumpkins back out and pick up all the insides
Once everyone got back up, then it was time to start voting on who will win.
And now for your 18th Annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Winners:
Best Effort – Annie Olsen
Ugliest – Mike Steele
I should mention it was a tie between 2nd and 3rd, therefore a tie breaker had to be performed.
3rd Place – Tiffany Hayworth (also the blogger/photographer needs to be fired for this photo!)
2nd Place – Justin Walkinshaw
1st Place – Dan Hayworth
And a photo of her 1st, 2nd and 3rd place or should I say, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st. You be the judge . Justin is in a Hayworth Sandwich… haha. (Please laugh, let me know I’m kind of funny.. haha)
And now…. the finale…
A close up look of the pumpkins:
And the 14 participants for the 18th Annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving.
The weather was beautiful. The company was fabulous. The diving conditions weren’t bad at all, a nice balmy 68 degrees and the thermocline wasn’t hit until around 50 feet or so, so the water was the same pretty much all over our diving cove.
And check out this video by Mike Vandergrift!
