celebrating 25 years - Our history

thank you for being with us for 25 amazing years

In 1989 Grady Weston became SCUBA certified after buying an Open Water certificate with his brother from a local auction. A year later his wife, Deb, and eldest son, Justin, became certified. His youngest son, Jared, became certified in 1994 rounding out the Weston family of certified Scuba divers. Ever since then, most family members and friends have joined into the fun with us.

Extreme Sports SCUBA started as an SSI Dive Center in 1997 in the north side of Joplin. In 2003, the team moved to our current location and switched to an SDI Dive Center. Ever since then, Extreme Sports has certified over 1,400 divers, offered over 45 dive trips, and supplied all varieties of divers with the appropriate gear needed; Extreme has supplied gear for recreational, technical, and local rescue divers for years. The family owned and operated business was created to share the love of the underwater world.

kayaking / paddle boarding

In 2011, Extreme Sports Inc. reached out into a small, yet growing market, kayaking. Developing through Emotion Kayaks, Malibu Kayaks, and now Feelfree Kayaks; Extreme Sports now supplies local kayakers and paddle boarders with the gear and service work they need to continue their passion of floating, fishing, and hanging out on Missouri’s, Arkansas’s, Kansas’s, and Oklahoma’s local rivers/lakes. At this point, we decided to branch off from the name of Extreme Sports SCUBA, to Extreme Sports Inc.

Fishing Extreme Sports Dayle

fishing

In late 2020, a new chapter of Extreme Sports Inc. was made, supplying fishing gear. With multiple staff members being involved in local fishing, we wanted to help our local kayak fisherman with becoming a one-stop-shop for those last minute fishing needs. In the store-front, you will see 6th Sense Fishing gear, another family owned and operated business. We have and always will cherish brands 6th sense who were created on familiar grounds.

scuba equipment

In 1997, Extreme Sports kicked off selling brands such as Dacor, Innovative SCUBA, and Catalina Cylinders. In 2000, Scubapro was added to our selection and we’ve been prodiving their equipment ever since then. In 2015, we were selected to be a Scubapro Platnium dealer – providing Scubapro’s entire dive-gear line. In 2021, Ocean Technology Systems FFMs and Shearwater Computers were added.

dive training

Extreme Sports started training students through Scuba Schools International (SSI). After great success, in 2000 SDI approached the team and we became a Scuba Diving International (SDI) 5-Star Facility providing just recreational and Emergency Response Diving International (ERDI) rescue training. Extreme now offers 58 different courses from SDI, ERDI, and Technical Diving International (TDI).

traveling

Deb and Grady, the founders of Extreme Sports Inc, started the company to help supply their hobby and share the underwater world with others. By doing that, they were able to offer traveling trips to over 12 tropical destinations over the years with over 45 dive trips offered since 1997. Some of these trips were: Cozumel, Cayman Islands, Bonaire, Curacao, Utila, Belize, Honduras, and more.

We just wanted to say thank you.

With all of our local support over the last 25 years, we have been able to continue our passion of sharing the underwater world with others. We’ve told many customers our story of how this business started; it was never meant to be as big as it is today. Proper SCUBA training, equipment sales, equipment service, and frequent dive trips was scarce in the late 90’s around this area. We started Extreme Sports to fulfill what we felt was missing for ourselves and our friends.

We’re very thankful that we are able to do this every day and we could not have done it without you. Owning and running a small business can sometimes be very difficult; keeping our hobbies and jobs separated has brought up many challenges, but our dive family has allowed us to enjoy what we do and explore so many new places.

Without you, we would not be here today. Thank you <3

Best regards,

The Weston Family
