Extreme Product Feature – Synergy 2 Mask + SCUBA Mask 101

You know that phrase, if it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all? That’s how I feel right now. I’m just throwing that out there to tell you, don’t rub elbows with me or else you might get that bad luck to rub off… or better yet, do rub elbows with me so you take away my bad luck and I get some good luck.

And while I’m throwing things out there… technology hates me right now. I’m not sure what I did to upset it, but I sure did. Hopefully it isn’t as bad as my luck with stop lights. Have you ever ridden with me through stoplights whether I’m driving or you are? Most people might say don’t. I have the worst luck when it comes to hitting a stop light on red. I always joke I upset the light God’s (and yes, I know there is only one God… like I said, I joke).

But this is Wednesday and you didn’t come to hear my problems, you came here to learn about a new SCUBAPRO item. Which one you ask? Synergy 2 Mask but first… let’s consider a SCUBA Mask in General.

SCUBA Mask 101: 4 Things to Consider when Purchasing Your SCUBA Mask

  1. The most important thing to consider when purchasing a SCUBA mask is fit. If a mask doesn’t fit properly, it won’t keep the water out and you’ll have a very uncomfortable dive.
Tip to finding The Perfect Fit: Put the mask on your face without a strap. Breathe in through your nose and see if the mask will suction to your face. If the mask will hold that way, you have a properly fitted mask.
  2. SCUBA masks are either made from silicone or rubber materials. Rubber tends to be the cheaper route to go but doesn’t hold up nearly as well. Silicone masks tend to be softer and more flexible. The thing is, like the broken record of me keeps pointing out, try multiple masks and find what fits best for you.
The lens needs to be tempered glass to be able to handle the water pressure change.
  3. Not like the windows in your house, but it is the same concept. The Window gives you the view out of your mask. Masks come in either single or double glass panes. If you require special lenses to be able to see, you’ll have to stick with the double lens masks with changeable lenses.
  4. The last thing you need to think about is color. Mask skirts can either be black or clear. Then the the frame portion of the mask comes in different colors depending on the particular mask you are looking at.

Okay, so now that we know what we’re looking for in a mask, let’s move on to today’s blog post…

Synergy 2 Mask

Now that we have covered SCUBA Mask 101, let’s discuss the Synergy 2 Mask.

The first thing I can tell you about the Synergy 2 Mask is it comes in 2 forms, the single pane glass and the double pane glass window. So when the engineers who designed this particular mask, designed this mask, they came up with a new generation of Trufit skirt technology. The secret…. They put 2 skirts in there to help with fit and comfort but to also help keep the water out. The inner skirt is thin and soft for maximum comfort against the divers skin while the outside skirt is made of firmer silicon for that added protection. But what makes this “Trufit technology” so special? It was designed with multiple divers in mind so this helps to fit any and all (careful with that word… lol) divers faces. Plus you know that it is the Trufit technology because of its distinct ribbed texturing on the outer skirt.

This mask offers a low-volume profile. Why would that matter? Well it requires less effort and air from you to clear the mask should water get in, or say you’re doing your open water classes and have no choice but to flood your mask.

The mask also has quick-release buckles to tabs on the skirt rather than the frame of the mask. Now there is some debate over which is better, attached to the skirt or to the frame. The “pro” for attached to the skirt is if you are adjusting while your mask is on, if attached to the skirt it will keep the mask tight to your face. Now if you are me… I might as well not have a strap anyway because mine sits on the top of my head from about 5 minutes in to a dive until I get back to the surface. I think it’s a hair thing…. (my hair pushes it up and if I pull it back down it’s right back up so why bother….) but that’s just me, other people don’t seem to share that problem….
