Extreme Product Feature – Aladin H (Matrix) Dive Computer

I sure hope that you’re learning something right along side me with all these product reviews. I can sure tell you that I am learning things. Today’s item is one of those things that I’ve learned about, I just didn’t know I knew about. What? Would I like to translate that sentence? Sure.

When I was doing my Dive classes, we were given dive computers to complete the course. I grabbed the “digital” one as I referred to it out of the box and from then on made sure I grabbed the same one. In fact, on our first trip to Mermet Springs I made sure when we rented gear I got the dive computer I was used to. I just called it digital because it looked different than the other ones… I really at the time didn’t have a clue what I was talking about.

When Mark started buying our dive gear, one of the first things he bought was an Aladin H (Marix) computer. The “digital” type computer I used when getting certified. Remember, I didn’t have a clue what I was talking about then, I just knew it looked like the one that I used when getting certified. After he bought his whole set up as a combo, he got a different computer and I got his hand-me-down but I was okay with that because I knew how to use that computer from my dive classes/certification dives.

At the time I didn’t know it was called an Aladin H (Matrix). In fact, up until a few weeks ago when they told me I was writing a review on this I still didn’t know what it was. No one ever told me so how was I supposed to know? After he bought my dive set up, the dive computer became a hand-me-down to Tori. She didn’t care because that just meant she had her own equipment and we didn’t have to rent gear for her to dive. She’s easy to please just like me.

Okay, okay, so get on with it. Tell us about the Aladin H (Matrix) Dive Computer. Okay, I’m so glad you make these demands. Makes my life easier.

This is a compact sized dive computer that has instinctive data display screen. This sharp-looking computer is a full-feature dive computer that includes air integration. What is air integration? So a basic dive computer only monitors your depth and dive time. That means you’ll need an additional pressure gauge and compass to assist with your dive. An Air Integrated dive computer measures your breathing rate against the air in your tank and calculates/recalculates your remaining bottom time. The Aladin H (Matrix) features a metallic faceplate and easy-to-read display. With air integration feature and the digital compass, the Aladin H (Matrix) is light weight, compact, full-functioning dive computer.

Okay, I’m ready to let the SCUBA-PRO’S (haha… like that play on words?) give you some technical jargon.

  • Predictive Multi-Gas ZHL16 ADT MB algorithm accommodates three gases (21-100% O2).
  • Fully air-integrated, the algorithm calculates remaining bottom time (RBT) and estimates workload based on breathing rate.
  • PDIS (Profile Dependent Intermediate Stops) calculates an intermediate stop based on N2 loading, current and previous dives and breathing mixes for safer diving.
  • Microbubble levels let you adjust the level of conservatism in the algorithm to match your experience level, age, and physical conditioning.
  • Protector boot covers a quick-release fitting that enables you to separate the dive computer from the HP hose for easy post-dive data downloading, traveling, and safe storage.

PLUS:

  • Two Dive modes: Scuba, Gauge.
  • Maximum operating depth: 394ft/120m.
  • Altimeter.
  • Digital compass, displayed on (Matrix) bottom row.
  • Active back light.
  • Visual and audible alarms.
  • Adjustable pp02 from 1.0 and 1.6, and it can be set to Off.
  • Bookmark function.
  • Lens protection cap.
  • CR2450 user-replaceable battery rated for two years/300 dives.
  • Dive logs can be stored and analyzed via new Bluetooth 4.0 technology.
  • Using the Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth 4.0) feature divers can download their dives to iOS and Android devices that handle the Bluetooth Low Energy technology.
  • For PCs and Macs that are not equipped with built-in Bluetooth Low Energy technology, the end user will have to buy a Bluetooth Low Energy USB dongle which is available on the market.
  • Uwatec has tested and recommends the use of the following dongle: Bluegiga BLED112.

You used this dive computer once upon a time but have since changed computers, why? Well yes folks that is true. I once used this handy little dive computer but don’t anymore. The answer to that question is, because Mark gave me a different dive computer. I wish I had more of an explanation or reason behind switching dive computers, but that pretty well sums it up. My oldest is 14 years old and I trust this dive computer enough to let her dive with it. So yes, it is a good dive computer, because if it wasn’t, I wouldn’t allow my 14-year-old to dive with it. I kind of like her… just a little… even if she is a teenager…. (I think we need a sarcastic font because read that as I love that kid and don’t want anything to happen to her!)

The readout display is easy enough that her dad or I can swim up next to her, grab the dive computer, and check her air/remaining bottom time at a quick glance, although she’s really good at watching her own readout. It’s always nice to be able to double check she’s okay!

With some quick pushes of the buttons you find out your air consumption, depth, water temperature, dive time, etc, plus it includes the date so you know when you did each dive. Like I stated at the beginning, I liked this dive computer so well going through my classes that I made sure I got this one every time I got in the water. What else can I tell you?
